BuildMyPlanet Privacy Policy
Effective October 13, 2026
BuildMyPlanet is a multiplayer building game played in a web browser and in the Powell Play app. It is published by Powell Lines LLC ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information the game collects, why, who it is shared with, how long it is kept, and how you can delete it.
Who BuildMyPlanet is for
BuildMyPlanet is a general-audience game rated for players 13 and older. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Parents of younger players who play with family supervision can turn on Kid mode (below). If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, email hello@powellplay.com and we will delete it.
What we collect and why
Your player (account)
When you first play, your device creates a random secret code and keeps it in the browser's storage. Our server turns that code into a short player ID (you can see it in Settings). We store, under that player ID: your gold, stars, backpack items and daily streak; the land you own; your list of buddies; the date your player was created and the last day you played; and, if you set one up, your AI helper and Creator Studio camera link. Why: to run the game, save your progress and give you your stuff back each time you play. There are no passwords. Anyone with your backup code (in Settings) can play as you, so keep it private.
Your username and look
You choose a display name (or keep the random one we suggest) and how your character looks. Other players see these in the game, and they are saved with your player, with the worlds you create, and with landmarks and shared spots you make. Names are checked by a filter. Why: so other players can see who is who. Please don't use your real full name.
Chat
Chat messages go through our server, which filters them and passes them to the players in your world. We do not keep a record of chat. The server holds each player's last few lines in memory only, so that if someone reports a player, that player's recent lines are attached to the report for our team to review. Why: to deliver messages and keep players safe.
Worlds and builds
The worlds you create and the blocks you place are saved on our server, along with which player placed each block (so your builds are protected from others), landmarks you add and the hearts they receive. Worlds you mark as listed can be visited by anyone. Why: building and sharing worlds is the game.
Voice and webcam (only if you use them)
BuildMyPlanet has no voice chat. In Creator Studio you can record a video of your play and choose to add your microphone and webcam. Recording happens entirely on your device: your voice, face and the video are never sent to us, and the video is saved only where you save it. Your browser asks your permission first, and you can say no.
AI helper links
You can give an AI app you use (for example Claude or ChatGPT) a private link that lets it build with you in the game. If you do, that AI app's company receives what your helper sees in the game (the blocks and builds around it, its build plans and the answers you give to its questions), and handles it under its own privacy policy. We store your helper's name and color, its link code, the builds it is working on, and a short log of what it built (a label, block count and location). Why: to run your helper and fix problems. You can remove your helper at any time in the game, which deletes its link.
"Talk to us" messages and error reports
When you send us feedback, we receive your message, your player ID and name, an optional picture of your screen (you can leave it out), your device and browser type, the game version, the world and place you were in, and the last few game errors. When the game itself has an error, it sends us a short technical error report with your player ID. Why: to answer you and fix bugs. Our replies are delivered to you inside the game.
Reports
If you report a player, we keep your report: your player ID, the player you reported, the reason, the world and spot, and that player's recent chat lines. Why: to keep the game safe.
Shared spots
When you tap "Share this spot", we save the picture you took, your caption, your display name and the world and spot, and create a public link. Anyone with the link can see it. Why: so your friends can see it and visit.
YouTube
Players cannot post to YouTube from the game, and we never post your recordings. BuildMyPlanet's own Studio characters (made by our team) build in the game, and we post videos of their builds to the BuildMyPlanet YouTube channel. Those videos are filmed in our characters' own towns and may show public worlds and the in-game names of players who were there. To have a video changed or removed, email us.
Places on Earth
The Earth planet lets you visit real places by choosing them on the map. We never ask for or use your device's location (GPS).
Gameplay statistics
Our server keeps a log of what happens in the game: when you open it, how long you spend in each world you visit, your first steps (such as placing your first block), reports, messages to us and game errors. Each entry carries your player ID, whether you play on the web or in the Powell Play app, and the game version. For a new player it also keeps a short label for where they came from, such as a campaign name or the website that linked here (never the full address). Our team sees these numbers in our own console, and can mark accounts as test accounts or ban a player who breaks the rules. Why: we keep gameplay statistics to run and improve BuildMyPlanet, and to count players the same way as every Powell Play game. We share only daily totals with Powell Play (Powell Lines' studio service), never your email, IP address or payment details (BuildMyPlanet doesn't collect any of these).
Sign in with Powell Play (optional)
You can connect BuildMyPlanet to a Powell Play ID, the account Powell Lines LLC runs for all its games, to keep your name and progress in every Powell Play game and on any device. If you sign in with Powell Play, we receive your Powell Play ID, username, avatar and confirmed email address from Powell Lines LLC. BuildMyPlanet doesn't keep the email address or use it for anything: its players have no email addresses, so there is no existing account to look up with it. If you disconnect the game or delete your Powell Play account, we stop using them and remove them from BuildMyPlanet. If you ask Powell Play to delete your data in every connected game, we delete your BuildMyPlanet data too. While you're connected, we keep a secure, encrypted copy of your player's secret code, so that signing in on a new device brings your player there; it's removed when you disconnect. If you connect, Powell Play can also show your BuildMyPlanet stats, badges and leaderboard places on your Powell Play profile (you can hide your profile at id.powellplay.com/account). Powell Play's own privacy policy is at powellplay.com/privacy. Sign-in with Powell Play is turned off while Kid mode is on.
Friends on Powell Play
If you play with friends through Powell Play, we tell Powell Play when you're in the game or in a room so your friends can join you. We don't keep your friend list. Your friends, friend requests and blocks live on your Powell Play ID, under Powell Play's own privacy policy. This is off in Kid mode.
Play with a friend
When you invite a friend, Powell Play makes a short code, link and QR code for your world. They contain no personal information. Anyone with the link can join you while the invite is open (up to 6 hours, or until you end it), and can build in your world while they're there. You can lock the invite or remove a player. Friends who join without a Powell Play ID use quick chat only.
Technical information
Like any website, our server receives your IP address and basic browser information with each connection. We use the IP address only briefly, to stop abuse (for example, too many tries) and for security logs, and we do not use it to identify you or work out where you live.
Stored on your device only
Your settings (including Kid mode and its PIN), your list of friends, your travel log of recent places, your hotbar and your solo-play builds are kept in your browser's storage on your device. We do not save them on our server (while you play, your friends list is used to show friends' chat and is then forgotten).
Kid mode (parent PIN)
Kid mode limits chat to Quick chat phrases, and only shows free-typed chat from the player's friends. A parent sets a 4-digit PIN, which is needed to turn Kid mode off. Kid mode and the PIN are stored only on that device and are never sent to us. If the PIN is forgotten, clearing the browser's data for buildmyplanet.com resets it (this also removes the player from that device unless you saved the backup code).
Who we share information with
We do not sell or rent your information, and we do not share it for advertising. We share it only as follows:
- Other players see your display name, look, chat messages, builds, landmarks and listed worlds while playing, and anyone can see spots you share by link.
- Powell Play (Powell Lines' studio service) receives daily totals for BuildMyPlanet, such as how many players played and for how many minutes. These totals contain no player IDs or names.
- Hosting: the game runs on servers operated for us by Starforge Fleet, which stores the game's data for us.
- Fonts: the game loads its fonts from Google Fonts, so your browser connects to Google, which receives your IP address.
- Your AI app, only if you connect one, as described above.
- Map data: our server downloads map and elevation data (OpenFreeMap, and elevation tiles on Amazon Web Services) to build the Earth planet. Your device does not contact them, and no player information is sent to them.
- AI for our Studio characters: our own Studio characters are written and voiced with Google Gemini and Anthropic Claude. No player information is sent to them.
- The law: if required by law, or to protect players' safety, we may share information with the authorities.
How long we keep it
| Information | How long |
|---|---|
| Your player, worlds, builds and landmarks | Until you delete your account (you can also remove your landmarks yourself). Worlds have rolling hourly backups (the last 48 changes of each world) so we can undo griefing; deleting your account removes you from these too. |
| Chat | Not recorded. Recent lines are held in memory only, and are lost when the player leaves or the server restarts. |
| Reports | 2 years, then deleted automatically. |
| "Talk to us" messages, screenshots and our replies | 2 years, then deleted automatically. |
| Game error reports | 90 days, then deleted automatically. |
| Gameplay statistics | 180 days, then deleted automatically (errors after 90 days). Daily totals without player IDs are kept. Your all-time minutes played are kept until you delete your account. |
| Shared spots | Until you delete your account. We also remove the oldest automatically once there are 3,000. |
| AI helper | Until you remove it or delete your account. |
| Kid mode, settings, friends, travel log | On your device only, until you clear it. |
Deleting your account and data
Open buildmyplanet.com/delete-account on the device you play on, check it's your player, and confirm. This deletes, right away: your player and progress, the worlds you created (with their backups), your landmarks and land, your AI helper, your shared spots, your "Talk to us" messages and error reports, and reports you made. Your gameplay statistics stay only as anonymous totals: your player ID is removed from them. Blocks you placed in other people's worlds and on shared planets stay part of those worlds, but are no longer linked to you. Reports other players made about you may be kept for up to 2 years for safety. We keep only your deleted player ID (a short random code, nothing else), so that an old backup code can't bring the player back.
You can also email hello@powellplay.com with your player ID (shown in Settings) and ask us to delete your account. We will do it within 30 days.
Security
Connections to BuildMyPlanet are encrypted (HTTPS). Our team console is protected by strong sign-in. No system is perfectly secure, so please keep your backup code private.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to see, correct, or delete the information we hold about you, or to object to how we use it. Email us and we will help. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update it here and change the date at the top. If a change is important, we will also tell players in the game.
